In this way I'm starting to become a bigger and bigger fan of Mario Bava of course. Super thief 'Diabolik'. The director can do this too, great! It starts with the underground base / house of Diabolik - his hot bitch showering in the equally wonderfully futuristic shower. Mighty.

That 60's atmosphere, the stylish design, the fantastic matching score of Morricone. Everything fits perfectly in this wrong, but great - sometimes exciting and funny story. Bava combines and everything falls in the right place. And the angry look of Diabolik himself is, of course, priceless. Master camp.

The twists and turns are downright absurd, but it is undeniably a film of its time, steeped in hippie culture and kitsch. The summer of love was taking place or had just taken place when this was filmed, and you can see that in everything. The criminal mastermind Diabolik is an imitation of the better Fantomas films with Jean Marais. Diabolik is basically a flat and uninteresting character; when he's not involved in spectacular heists, he's flirting with his beautiful girlfriend Eva Kant, who walks around half-naked for most of the film. Meanwhile, the police (hilarious that Michel Piccoli was cast for this role) use all means to catch him. Definitely worth seeing because of the iconic 1960s imagery, but a Bond film or Fantomas film is still my preference.
