La Collina degli Stivali plot

A circus visits the small mining town of Liberty Ville. At that moment, a shooting spree breaks out between Cat Stevens and the men of the landlord and city boss Honey Fisher. Fisher wants to claim all claims from the land nearby and does this by terrorizing and if necessary killing the gold miners. Since Stevens is badly injured by a gunshot, the circus turns out to be a great hiding place.

Watched this film in the original Italian today and that is an improvement compared to the worthless English version.

Still not really good and all weaknesses remain, but much more enjoyable.

Although setting in circus is special for western, otherwise the story is not fascinating enough and alternation of serious and exciting scenes with more humorous moments does not work and makes it -despite relatively short running time- a long time.

Remarkable: Spencer and Hill do not yet act as a duo in this film, while in fact they already did in their previous collaboration, Aces High, from the same director.

I'll make it a five, or 2.5 star.

Not a very intelligent but quite entertaining film, although the film hit in the last fifteen minutes

very much in joy. Spencer and Hill here less emphatically as a duo, the first coming last

still be able to deal some blows in the way he knows. Carefree costs with the

accompanying hooks and eyes, despite the fact that it managed to amuse me.

After the film I went to find who that black actor is again because he looked very familiar to me. It turns out to be Woody Strode, and indeed I turned out to be him in several films

(Especially westerns), with perhaps his most famous (Main) role in Sergeant

Rutledge.

With 'La Collina degli Stivali' Giuseppe Colizzi concluded his trilogy around Cat Stevens (Terence Hill) and Hutch Bessy (Bud Spencer). In my opinion, the film is the weakest of the trilogy. It is a film that I think would have long been forgotten, were it not for the illustrious duo acting in it. Various versions of the film have been released. I have no idea which version I saw, but the main language was English. English did occasionally change into die Deutsche Sprache for short periods. A strange sensation that had an unintentionally comical effect.

After this film, director Colizzi has meant little to the film world. After seeing the trilogy, I understand that. He clearly lacks the talent of the man he so admired (Sergio Leone). In any case, that is not the case in this film. Assembly is sloppy. Scenes do not connect well with each other and are sometimes dumped somewhere, it seems. The film is a chaotic experience. However, you cannot lose the thread of the story, because the story has too little content for that.

That story is not particularly resourceful and ripples along without much sense of direction. Because the film is not rich in fascinating actions and dialogues, there is enough time to bore the viewer with minutes-long scenes of men playing dice, dancing showgirls and a circus act. The action scenes bring some life, but they are staged so sloppy and dark that there is little fun to be had in those scenes. The score by Carlo Rustichelli, who mixes atmospheric western music with cheerful circus music, is nice.
