Nice movie! I find it interesting from start to finish, a nice story and well acted. "Je vole" is a beautiful and moving song, and I also really like "Je vais t'aimer". Good music is always a plus for me. I don't know many films in which deafness plays a major role, so that doesn't make the film average either. I agree that not everything is finished equally, but that didn't bother me. A bit of a coming of age film with humor and seriousness. I don't find it too sentimental and the humor suits me, so all together I give a high score. 4*

The drama of being deaf-mute in this otherwise fresh comedy that also - and to my great regret that has become very rare in the meantime - puts the French chanson back on stage in the film.

The film does have some depth in the middle part, but it more than compensates for this with a dazzling and very moving last part.

Louane Emera is a deserved César winner and Karin Viard (not really much of a farmer's wife type) and François Damiens also convince as the deaf-mute couple.

A bit coming-of-age, but ultimately a feel-goodie content of which there may be more.

Paula Bélier [Louane Emera] is a child of deaf parents [Karin Viard, François Damien] and also has a deaf brother [Luca Gelberg]. As a result, she has become an indispensable link in the communication between her family and the world of the non-deaf. When a choirmaster [Eric Elmoanino] discovers that Paula has a beautiful singing voice, she finds a way to express her own feelings and begins to dream of studying at the Conservatory. For that she will have to leave her family behind and the problems that this causes are central to this comic drama that has an interesting premise, but which is superficially worked out. The final scene is very moving, but the American remake CODA is considerably better.
