The Rising of the Moon shows Irish rural life in three stories. In "The Majesty of the Law," a police officer must arrest an old-fashioned, traditional man for a violent crime. The man's principles make the policeman and the entire village, including the man who was beaten, sympathize with him. "One Minute's Wait" is about a train station and a glimpse into the lives of the passengers. "1921" is about a convicted Irish nationalist and his courageous escape.
