Fargo plot

"A lot can happen in the middle of nowhere."

Jerry Lundegaard (William H. Macy), a small-town Minnesota car salesman, is buried in debt. He will have his wife kidnapped by two villains (Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare) and then demand a large ransom from his rich father-in-law. It should be an easy job, were it not for the fact that the criminals kill three residents immediately after their arrival in Fargo. The heavily pregnant police officer Marge Gunderson (Frances McDormand) is charged with the murder investigation.

Whoever burns his buttocks must sit on the blisters

Fargo is one of those vaunted classics that I still hadn't seen. So, after 3 seasons of Fargo, it was about time, and that was on a lazy Sunday evening. Nice to see where the series gets its inspiration from. I also did not expect that the first season had taken over so many elements from the original, but the further seasons also use the same quirky atmosphere that hangs through the film. This could easily have resulted in a whole series of failed crime movies, which is exactly what the series has done now, only with seasons of course. Strange when you consider how long this took while the concept lends itself well to it. Perhaps nobody dared to try the quirky style of the Coen Brothers before?

Although Fargo is over 20 years old and this is clearly visible, it never became disturbing to me. At least I was able to see through it well. And while Jerry Lundegaard isn't as fun as Lester Nygaard from the first season of the series, this is more than compensated for by the characters of Peter Stormrare and Frances McDormand. So many years later, this is still top notch, although the arrest of Jerry could have been a little less easy and I would have preferred to see more of a manhunt here.

Oh daddy... If anyone ever asked me what the ideal entry-level movie for the Coens is, I would without hesitation mention this one: rock solid plot, supercoolly funny, unexpectedly hard, unique dialogues, and every scene off . Perhaps the most attention is paid to McDormand's lead role because of her first of three Oscars so far (and with that number only three actresses have preceded her), but what fascinates me every time is the supporting role of William H. Macy: with this In one fell swoop, he ends up in the select group of actors whom I have been unable to see as that character since a previous role, and with whom I always see a glimpse of that earlier iconic role with every new role (Malcom McDowell in A clockwork orange, Christopher Walken in The deer hunter...). But in fact, everything about this film is perfect. Roger Ebert: "Movies like Fargo are why I love the movies."

@ Roger Thornhill

Thanks, that question has been bugging me for years, here's the answer I previously received via IMDb:

He was swapping the plates on the parked car with the car he was driving. So if the police were to run the plates of his car, it wouldn't come up as the dealer plates. Remember, that Showwalter and Grimsrud killed a trooper that had pulled them over. If he radioed in their plates then there would be an APB to look for that specific license plate.
