Quite an entertaining film but for any form of originality you should not go to Hangman. The premise is still nice, as are the images and quite a lot happens, but on the other hand the story becomes more and more improbable as Hangman progresses and largely fails due to the mediocre ending. Something that in my opinion is partly due to director Johnny Martin who does not make a very good impression here.

That also applies to Al Pacino, who I have seen better and who leaves a somewhat washed-out impression. Although the latter may also have something to do with his role. In any case, I did not think he was really strong, then Karl Urban came across as a lot more convincing.

The funny thing is that, despite all these points of criticism, I was never bored for a moment during Hangman (also because I like this genre of films). That's why I give it a small pass.

Extremely mediocre crime film, which for me never seemed to get going, the films really sauntered forward. Al Pacino or not, this was really not good and indeed came across as quite amateurish, with such films that is really a serious culprit. B-movie level can be appreciated with horror, cult, over the top action, comedy, but not with a film that takes itself seriously.

Detective Riney [Karl Urban] enlists his retired former partner Archer [Al Pacino] to help him hunt down a serial killer who (in the style of Hangman) reveals a letter to a word for each victim that explains why he commits the murders. Crime reporter Cristi Davies [Brittany Snow] follows the men closely. Yet another clone of Seven with mutilated corpses, a chase to break the routine and a ridiculous denouement. Only for Pacino completists and even they will wonder why Pacino let himself be roped into this routine job.
