You can hardly call this bullying anymore, it's more like torture. Therein also lies a bit of my problem with Después de Lucia, because I think the extent and speed at which Alejandra becomes the target of these psychological and physical torments (especially when you know that the infamous Stanford -experiment has since been debunked ). The movie really got to me. Even the opening scene already contains a certain threat. But Después de Lucia only works on one level, namely the shocking nature of the brutal actions and the accompanying compassion for the main character that this produces. The comparison with Campos is therefore more obvious to me than that with Haneke (and Von Trier seems even further away to me). Purely on impact, the film would earn higher than 3*, but because I find it a bit too one-dimensional, a small correction is applied downwards.

Good.

The poster here on MovieMeter gives a slightly different impression than what the film actually is. Above that, it looks like a fast, smooth plague film that looks modern. What the end result is, that is a somewhat slower, more intimate and harder bullying film with a number of horrific scenes.

Especially a special approach, which is not cut out for everyone. Long, static takes and a snail's pace during the first half of the film. That half is a bit standard set up, which makes it not always interesting. We have seen the problems and situations before, but are otherwise fairly portrayed.

Still, the somewhat slow pace is not always interesting during the first half. The look is somewhat empty and bare with almost absent cinematography. There will not have been much budget. Fortunately, it is supported by good acting from both the father and daughter who can keep things up a bit.

The second half is a bit different (and better for me) than the first half. The bullying is presented fairly mercilessly and especially in a violent way. The situation escalates just a little too quickly, but otherwise the scenes are put down hard. The villainous nature of the bullying does make this film, though, leaving a certain impact.

It also works towards a unique ending that I didn't see coming, which only makes the movie better. The film does not last too long and does not trot too far on less interesting subjects. The first half is sometimes a bit tough, but half manages to compensate for this well. A good bullying film, not set up too mainstream, but one that leaves a strong impact. A good movie.

This movie continues to reverberate in my mind. Sometimes I couldn't watch it and it didn't exactly make me happy, but very good. Especially the unspoken leads to guessing and thinking.
