Laban Feather and Pap Gutshall are two patriarchs, heads of two different rural families who live in an ongoing feud. The sons of the two families don't miss an opportunity to make each other's life miserable. But it has never escalated. Then the Feather sons decide to kidnap a girl. They take the wrong girl, Roonie Gill, a casual passerby who is unaware of any harm.
