Priest plot
"In a world of rituals, in a place of secrets, a man must choose between keeping the faith and exposing the truth."
When young priest Greg Pilkington (Linus Roache) accepts his new assignment in Liverpool, he has no calling. His traditional, pastoral attitude is not entirely in line with the social reality in this industrial city and the ecclesiastical politics. Greg discovers the true practice. Liberal Father Matthew (Tom Wilkinson) doesn't like celibacy and has an affair with the housekeeper. The secret of confession makes it impossible for Greg to help a young girl who is being abused by her father. Greg is put to the test. When he gives in to his homosexual feelings and is disgraced in the newspaper, the disappointment is total. Greg appears to be at the end of his religious career and is emotionally drained. The bishop wants to get rid of him and he is sent away. But Father Matthew is still there and don't let it go. Strengthened and refined, Greg rediscovers himself and his calling.
