Intense docudrama about the sports department of the American television station ABC, which more or less coincidentally reports live on the terrorist actions in Munich in 1972. Strongly acted and excitingly portrayed, with a beautiful integration of the unforgettable archive footage in the rest of the film. The period is also beautifully realized. And, even though you know how it ends; the tragic ending still hits hard.

Reasonable drama. The story is familiar, but the presentation from the perspective of the control room is original. The first part is a bit on the tough side, but just when you almost want to give up, an impulse comes that is triggered by a turn during the hostage situation. From that moment on, the pace picks up and the moral dilemmas come to the fore, which leads to an interesting drama. The acting is good. Visually very strong, it is like a film that was made in the 70s. In addition, the combination with the real archive footage is a nice plus. 3.5

Great movie. Because of the plot and the trailer I had some doubts at first (Will it be too heavy drama? Play too much on emotions? Too scripted? Hollywood-like?) but none of that. From second 1 I was in the movie and this is mainly an exciting thriller that makes good use of the moment itself. What I mean: you really go along with the characters who at that moment have no idea what exactly is going on and that makes the movie kind of exciting. The documentary-like style with loose camera and certain shots that suggest a documentary reinforces that feeling. The movie feels very realistic. Because of the structure (almost entirely from a control room far away from the events) and that documentary-like style the movie quickly reminded me of that other sublime thriller (United 93, also because it is about cowardly terrorists who capture innocent civilians and you watch the movie from bystanders mainly). Visually also nice (as if it was shot then but the movie looks attractive) and with strong acting. The pace is also excellent.

What I liked most is that you watch people who do their job and do it well. I used to read books by Mart Smeets where he describes quite clearly how to make live television sometimes and the film knows how to convey that very well. About choices that are made but also the stress and pressure and the pace during the direction and the overview that a director must have. That is all reflected in this film. As the film progresses you just get a nice insight into that world. And that without any false sentiment or Hollywood crying fits (only at the end when it turns out that the hostages are dead and some atmospheric music starts, but that is also a minor moment). 4.5*.
