Godard's films are for beautiful hipster films, but they are wonderful to watch. The opening is already brilliant in which we follow a dialogue with only the backs of both characters in the picture. And Godard knows all too well how to portray something and what he does and does not show in the picture. The story itself is clear, but the division into 12 blocks provides the necessary variation and keeps the viewer alert. It's rare, but everything in the film - every word, every image, every look of Anna Karina - comes across as relevant. I think you have to grow a bit in Godard's films, but I like them more and more every time. Very fascinating director.

The death of Godard the day before yesterday made me forget the energy crisis and the negativity surrounding it... Time to take another look at what he stood for... To be honest I think his works are a bit overrated but he was certainly an innovator in the 60s , and further developed the arthouse genre.
Vivre sa Vie is nicely divided into 12 chapters, but I think that's just bland. Why specify in chapters what you will see in the next minutes in the film? Did Godard think that the public wouldn't understand what it will be about? Because of his often intellectualistic reflections on art and literature, he always seems to want to act out of the blue. To put it bluntly: I don't see a low-skilled worker watching his films. But still, chapeau for taking on the entire production process.
Fortunately, this near-documentary is still quite doable. It is not as loud and inaccessible as Resnais and Rohmer, although you will find all the characteristics of the small intimate cinema. Looking into the camera, getting up close to a vulgar character... Zooming in on a letter being written, or a philosophical dialogue, and the light-hearted musical intermezzos ensure that the film stays in motion and a neutral view bids on a young woman who is gradually slipping into prostitution... Nice to have seen.

Oh yes Godard. Sometimes beautiful, often at least special, but also cold and distant where ideas seem more important than the experience. This film also suffers from this, especially the last two chapters in which the camera is static and someone is then allowed to say all kinds of philosophical things that are not captivating by content nor by form.
Karina remains a reason to watch, she has a certain appearance that keeps you captivated as a viewer. Visually enough nice things, reasonable atmosphere and those 80 minutes also pass quickly, but all in all this whole film feels like a snack, like a summary. 3.0*.
