At the first time Inland Empire I was so timid that, despite the fact that I liked it very much, I couldn't get a score out of my sleeve. Reviewed yesterday, and it's going to be a 4.5*.

There's still not much to make of it, other than some fragmentary references. But what a great three-hour thrill this is. A succession of semi-cohesive scenes, each and every one of them great scenes, barely recovered from one surprise, has already made two or three jumps in the story. Unenjoyable because the line is almost impossible to determine? I can imagine such a reaction. It's hard to start with an intellectual approach to this film, although I will certainly make a few more attempts. As elusive and at the same time addictive as Rabbits is, so is Inland Empire. That last scene during the credits could not have been more perfect in my opinion: everything is possible here. And through this shadow play, Lynch knows how to work directly on my gut.

Wonderful film in the typical surrealistic style of Lynch, more in particular the hard core surrealism of Eraserhead. Salvador Dali might appreciate it. Yes, it's hard to make sense of the story, but every scene and every minute is so intense and fascinating in itself, partly because of the formidable acting, and so exciting because of the film noir or horror angle with fixed themes and storylines to cling to that you no longer need a coherent story to be glued to the TV for three hours (and everything is so connected that you are left with the idea that there is still a coherent story in it but Lynch leaves that creative construction to the viewer themselves if they feel like it). You are carried away in a subconscious stream of images and associations, in a hallucinatory (bad) trip so that, just like the lead actress, you fall into one surprise after the other and no longer know whether you are dreaming or awake: the film gave me an intense , unreal experience and I can't remember ever getting that close to an LSD experience without actually taking LSD.

PS. I was previously enthusiastic about Berberian Sound Studio (2012) and this film reminded me of that. But because Lynch had previously come up with the idea of an actor/actress experiencing the film herself Berberian Sound Studio (2012) seems inspired by Inland Empire.

I often read here that there is no rope to tie. Although this is by no means an accessible film, I received the message clearly. more clear than in, for example, Mulholland Drive or Lost Highway. I have always had the feeling that they are correct, but not correct. After watching this movie for an hour, this movie was perfect for me.

It is obvious that this film is about the mind versus the feeling and female trauma. Losing your mind and feeling and completely breaking down to see, accept and learn. This movie could have been like 3 years of my own life. That is why I fully understand it.. The fact that the camera work is as it is seems to me mainly because the film is set in the 90s, in my view. Back then everyone had one of those "funniest home video" devices in their closet.

I'm glad I saw him. I'm also glad that someone like David Lynch managed to capture my own fever with awful accuracy, but I don't need to see it anymore...
