Scream franchise star Mason Gooding expects Scream VII to be made despite the high-profile exits of Jenna Ortega and Melissa Barrera.
The Scream series received a popular reboot in 2022 and that was followed up by Scream VI, which proved another commercial hit.
The last two movies have focused on a new group of heroes - Sam Carpenter (Barrera), Tara Carpenter (Ortega) Chad Meeks-Martin (Gooding) and Mindy Meeks-Martin (Jasmin Savoy Brown).
Courtney Cox featured in both and Neve Campbell featured in 2022's Scream, but sat out Scream VI due to a pay dispute.
At the end of 2023, Barrera was fired from Scream VII due to comments relating to the Israel-Palestine conflict, while Ortega left due to scheduling commitments to Wednesday.
That means two of the 'Core Four' won't be in the next movie, but Gooding still believes the project will go ahead.
"If it could make money, I guarantee you, they’ll make it," he told Variety.
"It’s one of those things where you wait to hear from the people that make the big decisions. It’s all about keeping up with what feels like is the best movie for the fans. ’Scream’ doesn’t exist without the people who enjoy it as much as they … If people want it, they will certainly try their best to see it happen."
Matthew Lillard to return as Stu?
Matthew Lillard hasn't been asked to return as Stu Macher for Scream VII.
In the first Scream movie, released in 1996, Stu is revealed to be one of the two killers terrorising Sidney Prescott as the knife-wielding Ghostface.
In a final battle at his home, Stu is killed by Sidney after she drops a TV on his head, electrocuting him and crushing his skull. Still, there was no definitive proof that Stu actually died, which has led to plenty of speculation about a potential return, perhaps in Scream VII.
Fans are desperate for Stu to return, but nothing has been pitched on that front, yet.
"Nobody has called me (Laughs). I'll tell you that much," Lillard told FearHQ. "No one seems that interested in the return of Stu except for the fans. The fans are freaking out and love the idea, and I would argue that if you throw a TV on my head, I'll survive. So, there you go!"
