In a futuristic future, inmates sentenced to death are given the chance to win their freedom by participating in an extremely dangerous virtual reality game broadcast live. Interesting sci-fi/action film that sells itself short due to the terrible editing and choppy camera work. Because Gamer's premise is very interesting, and Neveldine and Taylor's weird and quirky vision works great too. Butler and the other actors are also strong and have a good sense of the craziness. But the editing and camera work also makes it a very tiring movie experience, although that was probably the intention.

Worst movie of all time, really sad that Gerard Butler let himself be cast for this.
Story makes no sense, camera man seems to have got stuck in an epileptic fit and the acting is downright laughable.
An hour and a half of your life that you will never get back.

Mediocre.
I can believe that Gamer has its fans: the directors' vision is clear from minute 1 to the end. In addition to the sci-fi, the film builds on fast-paced action, action that is knitted together with shocking camera work and a hyperkinetic montage. On time and on the bright colors of Society catch the eye, which makes for a screaming mix with the gray look of Slayers.
Although the style should provide an hour and a half adrenaline rush, it's not my idea of "hard, tough, fast action". I can also enjoy fast-paced action, without being annoyed by the hip chaos. Which is not to say that there isn't a nice piece in between here and there.
