Gallic jokes.

Asterix and Obelix are the childhood heroes of many adults. The comics remain fun, even half a century later, with the most constant factors being fun and fighting with the enemy under the influence of magic potion. Strange guys, those Romans. The Roman Pleasure Garden may not be the best comic book by spiritual fathers René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, but it is certainly not the least either.

Yet they are not quite able to fully transfer the humor to the silver screen. Something to which the Dutch-Flemish cast is also partly to blame. No matter how good the intentions are, the voice cast is solid but average. Also in terms of animations, nothing spectacular happens and it can safely be said that the third dimension adds little here, as we increasingly see with 3D.

Yet it is not all doom and gloom. The first half works well for those who don't know the story yet or have forgotten it through growing up. The dialogues are fun and the story is interesting. But after an hour the fun is largely gone in this now 10th animated film with the Gallic duo. To be fair, the last live-action feature film from 2012 was a bit more entertaining.

Reasonable.

Thanks to Entertainment One for the review copy.

Not the first Asterix film adaptation. After the 2D animation and live action, there is now the 3D version. That turned out better than expected. A little more money was thrown at it and you can also see the quality. Moreover, it remains close to the original story and there is no interpretation or extra humor or anything like that.

It may look nice (better than expected), but the pace is just a bit too fast for me. Clearly intended for a younger audience. Not incomprehensible, but that is of course of less use to me as a nostalgic Asterix enthusiast. The whole thing seems rather apathetic. Maybe because I knew the story so well, it wasn't surprising anywhere. Not that you have to introduce all the characters again, but a little depth is welcome. More fun than expected, but not a top film.

I have been a fan of the Asterix comic book series since I was little. Asterix, screenwriter René Goscinny knows how to flawlessly express his creative humor, the essential form of creative intelligence, in words and writing.

In addition to Asterix, the original Lucky Luke series is of the same high quality.

Unfortunately, many Asterix fans know René's fate. After this, Asterix's artist and apparently the copyright holder made off with Asterix, both in images and in writing. In addition to a new series of Asterix comics with a questionable quality in terms of scenario. The "Asterix and the Roman Pleasure Garden" film is an unprecedented and absolute highlight in terms of negativity.

Its about nothing. The 3D style is still lacking. The screenplay sucks. Let me put it this way. The film is officially called: "Asterix and the Roman Pleasure Garden" in the Benelux. But it concerns the Dutch language: Asterix and 'the' Roman Pleasure Garden.

In my opinion, the latter says more than enough. From the title alone you can tell that no effort was made to really sit down, write a good screenplay and make a fun film. It strikes me as a 'too' easy cash cow.
