I don't understand this madness with all this unbalanced nonsense. It twists on all sides. I've been tricked by those insanely high scores here and there.

Do not look. You're not missing anything.

Spirited Away

Imaginative animated film by Miyazaki. With Spirited Away, Miyazaki shows a fantastic imagination, and the story about the girl Chihiro who ends up in a fantasy world full of colorful characters and strange creatures makes an irresistible impression.

It is a coming of age story about a girl who learns many wise lessons about the important things in life in this fantasy world. It's a tough lesson, and Miyazaki is careful not to let it all get too sentimental. Especially the bond between Chihiro and Haku is nicely developed. The animation is brilliant, and especially when Chihiro takes the train at the last minute, it produces some beautiful scenes. A magical movie.

Happy Miyazaki.

But I still like to see him make smaller films. He may have the budget and the studio to bring epic to a good end, but he's not really the right director as far as I'm concerned.

Didn't find the first part as adventurous as it should have been. The film has some trouble getting started. Fortunately, the second hour is a lot better, also with some scenes that stay with me a lot better (No Face among other things, but also the train ride).

This is certainly not Hisaishi's best work, a bit of an unremarkable soundtrack. Fortunately, visually worth the effort, Ghibli's animation remains in a class of its own. All in all, it's definitely a strong film, but I certainly don't think it's the absolute classic that many people consider it to be.
