The Simpsons Movie plot
"See our family. And feel better about yours."
Lake Springfield is incredibly polluted and something needs to be done. Each resident then stops throwing rubbish into the lake and the problem seems to have been solved. But when Homer Simpson dumps the feces of his newly purchased pig into the lake, everything goes horribly wrong. Homer and his family manage to escape and flee to Alaska. But there they hear that the government wants to wipe Springfield off the map completely and know that they have to save their hometown.

For my second viewing, I quickly grabbed this Simpsons movie because it was on TV again. For the genre that this animated film is more than decent. The film is in the same vein as the series: funny, witty, absurd, politically inclined, etc ... whoever likes the series, will also get their money's worth. So can't go wrong if you know the format. It is also nice that the makers try to fit recognizable elements of, for example, historical events or well-known film fragments into the film.
Homer, of course, is in great shape. The scenes with his pig are hilarious. Predictable and sometimes flat childish humor? so what? Nice and nostalgic!
It struck me that there was little screen time for other legendary figures from the series (except for Ned Flanders). That also seemed quite impossible to fit them all into the film. The movie is within expectations. It will probably catch on with the fans and that makes the film a success anyway.

The Simpsons are so popular that a movie was inevitable. Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie manage to make it an entertaining and crazy adventure again, and the humor works and is also sharp at times. Not everything works, and especially Marge and Bart have few funny scenes. But luckily, Homer in particular is back in top form. Just like the director and script writers.
