Impressive documentary, consisting of a series of thematically related images supported by music. No voiceover, no bite-sized build-up; the viewer has to give meaning to the continuous stream of images. Impressively put together, with beautiful camera work and a lot of ingenious use of time-lapse photography. It is a bit of a swallow when you see the streets of Bhaktapur passing by, given the recent earthquake in Nepal.

An interesting look at different countries. Beautifully portrayed, I think the music is well chosen and I think it's a wonderful journey around the world. How I would like to travel. A film like this quiets that desire just a little bit, or it makes the desire bigger, because I find it so impressive to see other places and cultures. I think it's a powerful film, but when it was about halfway through, I found it to sag a bit. 4*

baraka. A documentary without a voice-over. Never seen anything like this before, but I thought it was quite a lot of pictures to see pictures. It also feels very patchy after a while. I understand the comparison with 2001: ASO. But I also found 2001 to be a terribly boring experience.

The relationship between man and nature is portrayed in various ways. The question is, what have I learned from this now? Nothing really. Anyone who doesn't live under a rock knows that the Amazon rainforest is being deforested. Everyone knows that there is a gigantic rock in Australia, Ayers Rock. Everyone knows that there is a lot of animal suffering to meet our human needs. Everyone knows sweatshops are a terrible place to work. It's a collection of images that show us what each of us should already know.

I also didn't find the music hypnotic enough, sometimes even badly chosen. If you are not taken along by the film here, it quickly becomes a very boring session and that is what it has become.
And then images may say even more than words. Here it says far too little because it brings nothing new under the sun.
