De Wilde Noordzee plot

Experienced diver and cameraman Peter van Rodijnen has filmed in seas all over the world over the past 20 years. Inspired by the famous explorer Jacques Cousteau, Peter decides to visualize the unknown underwater world of the North Sea. The documentary shows images of life under and above water, from the formation of micro-algae to the great giants of the sea such as sharks and orcas. The film not only shows the unknown beauty of the North Sea, but also the current dangers that threaten nature.

Peter van Rodijnen can film. No doubt about it. Beautiful images! Good story too. Constructed with quotes from Cousteau. Water cycle is life cycle. One man's bread is another man's bread. Everything is dependent. Disturbing people though! Breaks cycle. Everything dies. But is already going in the right direction. Increasingly taking nature into account. Nature also recovers quickly. Cousteau is the hero. For Peter van Rodijnen he is. What a man! Great! And wise! You protect what you love! So protect beautiful images! The more Cousteaus the better! Exotic is not necessary. The North Sea is also full of beautiful creatures! You have to see that! What creatures! Peter van Rodijnen does tell a strange story. Jip and Janneke. No complete sentence structure. Just a few words in a row. A kind of shouts. Really unique! Strange intonation too. Like a child giving a speech. Childish! Distracting! But beautiful images!

Inspired by Jacques Cousteau's nature documentaries, Peter van Rodijnen took up diving. He is now an experienced underwater filmmaker and has worked with Mark Verkerk, among others. The documentary about life in the North Sea contains many beautiful images (including the traditional "cute" seals) but little that is new. The messy structure suggests that Verkerk worked without a script. The commentary is clearly aimed at children, so adult viewers are warned. Van Rodijnen's timing and intonation are also poor. The last part (about windmills and the return of a special fish species in Denmark) is the most interesting.

Beautiful documentary. I was not bothered by the voice over at all. Simple, short and easy. The images are beautiful. It is fascinating and interesting to see how beautiful the underwater world is in our own North Sea.

One small drawback I found was that there are many images of the North Sea near Scotland or Denmark, etc.

I had hoped to see more, for example if you were to go down as a diver straight from the beach at Vlissingen. Or at Den Helder. Or Zandvoort at sea, etc. Or in (small) harbours in Zeeland. What do you encounter there?

Those large basking sharks and orcas are not found in our coastal waters, with perhaps one exception.

But otherwise a TOP documentary.
