The cast is almost entirely Iranian and the language of instruction is Farsi in this 'first Iranian vampire film', an extended version of the 2011 short film of the same name, which depicts the life of Arash [Arash Marandi], a boy living in the gloomy 'Bad City ' and whose father has been addicted to heroin since his wife's death, is shaken up when, on Halloween, dressed as Dracula, he meets a beautiful, intriguing girl [Sheila Vand] who is a real vampire. The two strike up a friendship that seems doomed to disaster...or could there still be hope for Arash?

Every now and then a bit too stylized horror film with too long musical intermezzos, although the musical tribute to Ennio Morricone is very successful. Beautifully filmed in black and white by Lyle Vincent and Vand is fantastic in the lead role.

A separate movie. Don't expect horror and no action, but enjoy another film that took me into a kind of art flow. All in all, a film to watch at least once.

Boring.

Amirpour shows her ambitions quite well with this debut, but whether this also works out is a completely different story. This film mainly shows itself through a strong filter. The contrast is nicely portrayed and on the visual level I don't have much to complain about in that area. With that, however, I'll point out the best point right away.

The acting is still doable, but the slow nature of the film doesn't help the characters. I get the focus, but it just doesn't work. Amirpour gives little to nothing to the characters except a look. The only one who comes close to some charisma is Vand, but that's mainly because she's just a good actress herself.

The camera work is bad, all scenes are presented as unattractive as possible. Now that annoyed me so much that after a while I couldn't even enjoy the black and white images anymore. Each scene is presented to the viewer in a boring way, and the horror, drama and thriller are also very disappointing. If this movie succeeds in anything, it's that it doesn't make you feel anything at all. All genres feel empty and unused, it actually does little that makes you as a viewer think "wow!".

Reluctant film that I will soon forget. You can't call this a horror film, which unfortunately I could only conclude after the film itself. Sometimes stylish with good acting, but otherwise a film that will never stay with me except that every scene is presented so intensely uninteresting. I can't do anything with this movie. It reminded me of The Eyes of My Mother, a movie I hated even more. So no compliment.
