A Promise plot
Germany 1912. A graduate young man of humble origin begins to work in the administrative department of a steel mill. The boss, a serious older man, appreciates his work and appoints him as private secretary. Over time, the young man falls passionately in love with his wife, but without revealing his feelings. When the boss decides to send his protégé to Mexico to oversee manganese mining, the announcement of his departure provokes a desperate reaction from the wife.
