Down the Shore plot

The story begins in Paris where Susan, Bailey's sister, meets the charismatic Frenchman Jacques. Susan invites him to lunch and then hires him as a guide while she's in town. Meanwhile in New Jersey, soul mates Bailey and Mary are still close friends after a childhood relationship ended abruptly. Now married to Wiley and the mother of an autistic son, Mary's marriage begins to crumble. Her friendship with Bailey provides her with the comfort she lacks in her marriage. When a French stranger shows up at Bailey's door with a letter from his sister Susan, the news that he is Susan's widower and claims the inheritance, things take a different turn.
