"Fetching two buckets of water..." Only these Japanese did not do this in clogs, but in slippers.

During the shooting of this film they must have suffered from tired legs, while I suffered from tired eyes...

Over time it did get a little better, but today this film doesn't fascinate me enough to get a passing grade.

Rarely have I seen a film of such simple, natural beauty.
It is remarkable how the many scenes with water carrying continue to form a minute, fascinating piece of cinema and what about the scenes of the energetically running children, dutiful, preparing lunch and, just like their satisfied parents, enjoying their very simple bath .
However, the funeral scene and when the woman can no longer bear her suffering and the man looks on understandingly and clearly shares her sorrow (while previously he punished her for the unfortunate loss of water) are wonderfully beautiful. Moving and averse to sentimentality.
Beautiful acting. An unforgettable film.

I don't know the clean definition of the label of a silent film, but no dialogue in this film. It also gives the film a kind of documentary-like style, very observational. Quite relaxing then. You have to make do with the images alone. And they are very beautiful, both technically and visually with the decor. The sound is also special. Subdued and serene.

But it is not really idyllic. It's hard work as a farmer. Whether this happens in Europe or Asia does not really matter. But there are also relaxing moments with the family. A trip with the cable car, for example. Fate strikes hard at some point, something I didn't see coming. The strong authentic acting does the rest.
