Kom Hier Dat Ik U Kus plot
Mona is nine years old when her mother dies in a car accident. Her father Vincent soon gets a new friend Marie, who enters the family as a replacement mother and demands all the attention. Mona makes the best of it in her own way, because she doesn't want this new family to fall apart too. She feels responsible and does everything she can to make it work, even at the expense of herself. It becomes her way of life. Even as an adult, Mona does her very best to make everyone happy. But the grown-up Mona realizes that the world is filled with egos and self-righteous people and that she will have to take matters into her own hands in order to eventually lead a happy life of her own.

Very successful tandem Netherlands-Belgium concerns the film adaptation of the book by Griet Op De Beeck. Maybe I should read the book right away. The cast consists entirely of Flemish people. The cast is strong and the acting is very good. Few who fall out of their role, on the contrary. I would have liked to see more of Govaerts (the brother). After all, only has a very minor role with hardly any dialogue, none at all. Extremely surprised of Zabarylo (Mona), I knew by sight, not by name. And Wine Dierickx is also great how she revives in her roles.
The figure of Mona is central, as a child to an adult. The film is divided into three main chapters with her mother, love and her father. The event is experienced from Mona's point of view. A strong woman, at least how she undergoes everything and sacrifices herself for everyone. At the same time a weak woman because she does not stand up for herself. The relationship with her father is close. The bond with her stepmother can be called bizarre and that seems to be due to the stepmother. Obnoxious person at times, selfish and little empathetic too. The same can be said of her boyfriend as well. Indifferent and manipulative, a narcissist it seems.
Little attention to the other characters. The brother as I said, but also the relationship with her half-sister hardly gets off the ground. Well, there are still annoying characters passing by. That stage director for example, played by a great Perceval, yuck!
Story-wise maybe just too brusque in construction, but this is fully compensated by the cast. Strong and painful drama. Enjoyed it very much and glad I chose it as a free introductory film at MeJane.

Some nice film adaptation of the book by Griet op de Beeck.
Mona is too good, too well-meaning and too sensitive to shake off the ego-based antics of her surroundings.
She has no respect. On the contrary, she is often wrongly blamed.
Brilliant scenes when her boyfriend and also her stepmother take their own frustrations out on her in a grand way.
Sensitively told, clever direction and very beautiful performances.

Excellent film about a young girl whose mother dies in an accident and then her father remarries. The lasting grip that the stepmother has on the main character and the family can be felt throughout the entire playing time. Some strong and poignant scenes. Penetrating because of both the good acting and the camera that stays close to the main character's skin.
