Je8ileui Bam plot

"Dark night of the soul."

More than two thousand years ago, there were two mysterious creatures that tormented people. They were eventually locked in different coffins. Half.

The 8th Night certainly had the potential to be a fun movie, but the rather boring course gets in the way of the movie several times. I think the makers themselves found the film much too interesting than the viewers did. There are certainly nice ideas hidden in them, but the rather slow way of dealing with them makes them quite tiring.

Still enough to shudder here and the opening grabs immediately, followed by a satisfying audiovisual look with beautiful use of color and excellent timing. There were indeed professionals behind the wheel and that is mainly visible in the visual field. Definitely not wrong in terms of content. The story is correct and there is enough in it, but it is just not presented to the viewer in a gripping way.

Acting is half done. I actually forgot about the cast after the film ended, and that is obviously not a good sign. Director Tae-hyung again seems to find the story more interesting and thus forgets the elements that also matter, such as intriguing characters and an exciting course. Really good horror is limited too much.

The finale is also over a bit too quickly, but that doesn't mean that the film didn't have its moments. The 8th Night has enough of them and it is professionally made, but I will not ignore the fact that I mainly found it a boring event. The fact that it then takes almost 2 hours does not make it any better.

After a good while I felt like watching a typical Asian horror movie again. Is the 8th Night recommended for that?

Not really. 8th Night is more like a detective than a horror.

In the beginning we, as viewers, gain some knowledge with yet another legend. This time a cursed eye. A curse is pronounced and evil is upon the world.

Then there is a nice role of a young man who no longer speaks as an assignment, a detective, a devil exorcist and that scary woman who shocks and yet knows how to give shivers when she shows such a grimace. And so we work our way up to the eighth night and... yeah... It's all pretty standard actually.

The 8th night is still manageable due to the good roles and certain humorous ways out, but those legends all seem so artificial. It doesn't get scary anywhere and the story around it is already very average.

I end up with 3.0*

Messy, too long Korean film that unsuccessfully tries to combine a number of genres. Thriller, fantasy and horror; it all comes along but unfortunately manages to make little impression. Visually, the film is quite strong, but the plot is sporadic to the point of corny and the characters are not exactly charismatic. Add to that mediocre special effects and a slow pace and you're saddled with a half-baked, negligible job.
