Devil in a Blue Dress plot
"Private detective Easy Rawlins has been caught on the wrong side of the most dangerous secret in town."
Easy Rawlins looks for a job as a maintenance man at an aircraft factory, but it doesn't work. Then he gets the offer to track down a lady who hangs out in jazz clubs in the black neighborhoods. He accepts the assignment, but before he has found her, one has already been killed. He finds her and she says she will go with him to his client, but first wants to pick up a letter under his guidance. His troubles are not over yet.

Good thriller from 1995; the acting is fine. The movie poster is less successful.

The film is a bit of a slow burn in which film noir elements, the late 1940s setting and the subtle acting determine the atmosphere. Denzel Washington plays well as a worker who has just been fired and unwittingly ends up in shady practices to pay his mortgage. He is tasked with pursuing a mysterious woman but ends up (of course) in a web of deceit, corruption and mafia. A bit of an LA Confidential feel indeed... and even Chinatown.
The elaboration is doable... but I think that's been used in many other movies before.
Nice atmospheric snack ... but not complete.

Good film in which an unemployed man takes on a job to find a lady without a trace. A fairly typical film noir that manages to distinguish itself somewhat because of the racism and the black main character. The plot is quite complicated. The entire decoration, music and voice-over set the right tone and make it an attractive whole.
