Vanishing Point plot

Former auto racer and police officer Kowalski now earns a living transferring cars from Denver to San Francisco. One day, he makes a bet with a friend: complete the route in 15 hours in a Dodge Challenger. Kowalski takes off without regard for speed limits and is soon chased in vain by Nevada and California police...

Nice tearing with a man without a first name, accompanied by a DJ without sight who provides the film with a finely varied soundtrack en passant. Lots of road fun with a cool muscle car, countless clouds of dust, screeching tires, cumbersome American tanks and a dry desert, while Kowalski encounters a number of strange characters in the meantime.
There is more going on under the hood, both with Kowalski and with the America around him, which carries the necessary weight. The scenery is beautiful and the sparkle in Kowalski's eyes, whatever that look may mean, is heartwarming. In short, a wonderful speed trip.

Reminds me especially of Easy Rider, which I don't like much either. I was hoping it would be a little more Bullit or the later Drive or Transporter. Now I understand why this is not a classic, but a cult film. The setting is nice and the cars are moving fast. But it also seems outdated. And that radio DJ bothered me anyway. It is also quite incoherent. So not my thing.

Blurry film with a largely absent plot, but in terms of atmosphere and cool shots of cars in the vast American landscape this is top notch. Nice soundtrack too. The umpteenth film from the 1970s in which a lonely loner in a car that appeals to the imagination takes center stage.
