The Stalking Moon plot
"He comes with the stalking moon. Silently. Relentlessly. And when he comes there is no place to hide."
Sam Varner is a scout in the military and middle-aged. Sam wants to find some peace and quiet on a farm in New Mexico that he recently bought. His latest assignment is to return a group of escaped Apaches, mostly women and children, to the Indian reservation. Among them are the white woman Sarah, who was kidnapped at the age of 11, and her half-blood Indian son. Both are allowed to travel with the army, but Sarah wants to quickly travel on to relatives in Columbus. Sam confesses to both and on the way decides to take Sarah and her son to his ranch, when he finds that the bloodthirsty Apache chief Salvaje is chasing them.
