Bad Sisters plot

Series that follows the lives of the Garvey sisters. Zwarte komedie gebaseerd op het Belgische origineel Clan van Malin-Sarah Gozin (Tabula Rasa) uit 2012. Het Iers-Britse Bad Sisters gaat over vier zussen die zien hoe vijfde zus Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) lijdt onder de psychische terreur van zwager John Paul (Claes Bang). Hoe lang gaat dat goed? Niet zo lang. In een bruisende mix van drama en zwarte humor valt primair het spitsvondige scenario op. Niet alle verhaallijnen zijn even geslaagd (bijvoorbeeld die van zwangere vriendin van levensverzekeraar Claffin), maar Bad Sisters blijft fier overeind door het uitmuntende acteerwerk en de aanstekelijke chemie tussen de zussen. De beelden van en locaties aan de Ierse kust geven een extra dimensie, net als de score PJ Harvey en Tim Phillips. Met een stevige portie Six Feet Under is dit opnieuw een uitstekend Apple TV+-drama.

Black comedy based on the Belgian original Clan by Malin-Sarah Gozin (Tabula Rasa) from 2012. The Irish-British Bad Sisters is about four sisters who see how fifth sister Grace (Anne-Marie Duff) suffers from the psychological terror of brother-in-law John Paul (Claes Bang). How long will that last? Not so long. In a vibrant mix of drama and black humor, the ingenious scenario stands out.

Not all storylines are equally successful (for example, that of the pregnant girlfriend of life insurer Claffin), but Bad Sisters proudly stands up due to the excellent acting and the infectious chemistry between the sisters. The images and locations on the Irish coast give an extra dimension, as does the score PJ Harvey and Tim Phillips. With a solid helping of Six Feet Under, this is another excellent Apple TV+ drama.

Deze serie krijgt bijna overal lovende kritieken. Ze word regelmatig vergeleken met de prachtserie Big Little Lies, maar sorry dat was toch van een andere categorie. Ik vond ze niet slecht maar ik vond de zwarte humor in Big Little Lies toch een pak sterker. Ook het acteren van de man die zijn vrouw inderdaad psychisch terroriseert was in BLL toch een pak beter! Claes Bang heeft toch niet het talent van Alexander Skarsgard, en ook Kidman, Witherspoon, Dern in BLL zijn toch wel een sterker trio actrices. Natuurlijk was het Ierse landschap prachtig, maar ik val in herhaling de kustweg in California aan Big Sur en Monterey waar BLL is opgenomen mag er toch ook zijn. Dus ik ben niet zo overtuigd als de meeste, ik zeg gewoon goed maar niet super......

This series is getting critical acclaim almost everywhere. She is regularly compared to the wonderful series Big Little Lies, but sorry that was in a different category. I didn't think they were bad, but I thought the black humor in Big Little Lies was a lot stronger. The acting of the man who indeed psychologically terrorizes his wife was also a lot better in BLL! Claes Bang does not have the talent of Alexander Skarsgard, and Kidman, Witherspoon, Dern in BLL are also a stronger trio of actresses. Of course the Irish landscape was beautiful, but I repeat myself the coastal road in California at Big Sur and Monterey where BLL was filmed is also worth it. So I'm not as convinced as most, I just say good but not great......
