After finishing The Sopranos a few months ago, it was time for a new HBO top series. The choice fell on Boardwalk Empire and I was not disappointed at all!
When I saw in the opening credits: 'Directed by Martin Scorsese' I already thought of starting something beautiful. And the hand of the master was clearly noticeable in this first episode. The choice of music, the dialogues, the atmosphere, all vintage Scorsese. I just found the introduction of the main characters a bit messy. It took me a few episodes to put names to faces.
However, after a number of episodes, the momentum picks up and the characters begin to gain color and captivate their personal struggles. Shining roles for Steve Buscemi, Kelly MacDonald, Michael Pitt and most importantly Michael Shannon as a twisted cop.
An enormously fascinating world is created here, I really like it!

For a long time HBO was lonely at the top in producing masterly productions. Again a dazzlingly beautiful piece of cinema reduced to episodes of 60 minutes. With the craftsmanship for which the channel is known, the most beautiful sets are linked to well-written storylines and convincing camera work. It is a real pleasure to watch as a spectator the world of America under Prohibition brought to life. Finesse is also in the details here. In addition, the roles are fantastically cast and that it also swings musically. Is everything right? Well, some storylines are simply developed and the whole thing is somewhat predictable.
