Les Papillons Noirs plot

Forty-year-old gloomy novelist Adrien, known as 'Moody' for his state of mind, has had only one success with a novel. After this he had continuous 'writer's block'; so he has very little inspiration for his second book. He agrees to become a ghost writer, writing a memoir for a terminally ill, dying man who tells him all about his life. In this way Adrien becomes part of his bloody past.

Les Papillons Noirs season 1

Really thought this was a wonderful series that took place in the fantastic 1970s, when people still made very beautiful original things such as beautiful cars and there was no disturbing smartphone and villages full of apartment blocks. I think the better Netflix work...

Les Papillons Noirs season 1

Such a tight series. The boring thumbnail on Netflix with a gray man on a couch is misleading. Glad I clicked it anyway.

The atmosphere is great, both the (colorful) images and the music and locations. Largely interesting characters and a captivating story, decorated with memories of a series of gory murders in the sunny south in the seventies.

So the series has quite a lot to offer, including the lines from the past and the present that are getting closer to each other. In the end, that's a bit too scripted/filmic (and then I'm also bad at interfamily ties and relationships). But okay, it brings some surprises.

It's been a long time since I've enjoyed a fairly unknown series so much. I think Marianne the last time (which may or may not also happen to be French).
