Fans of Harry Potter, DC Comics movies and The Lord of the Rings should be excited as we are likely going to get plenty of new content from those franchises over the next few years.
All of those properties are owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, and CEO David Zaslav believes that the studio actually doesn't take advantage of having those IPs, and suggested at a recent business conference that more and more content will be produced.
"One of the other real strengths of Warner Bros. is we talk about the great IP that Warner Bros. owns," he explained.
"But, for us, the challenge is that our content, our great IP — Harry Potter, DC, Lord of the Rings — that content has been underused.
"We think there's a lot of shareholder value in attaching a 10-year DC — a real plan around DC, bringing Harry Potter back to HBO for 10 consecutive years, doing multiple movies of Lord of the Rings."
The Lord of the Rings has already been switched to streaming thanks to the Rings of Power television series, which has already aired one season.
As for Harry Potter, it was announced earlier this year that Warner Bros. will produce a 10-season TV series based on the books by J.K. Rowling which will be a reboot of the hit movie franchise starring Daniel Radcliffe in the title role.
DC Studios is currently being overseen by Zaslav and James Gunn, with the latter recently outlining a 10-year plan for a DC movie universe. Gunn is currently working on the script for a new Superman movie.
Daniel Radcliffe will not be in the new Harry Potter
As he is the main representative of the franchise, even more so than J.K Rowling, Radcliffe has been asked if he will be involved in the TV series in any capacity, like a cameo.
But, that won't be happening.
"My understanding is that they're trying to very much start fresh and I'm sure whoever is making them will want to make their own mark on it and probably not want to have to figure out how to get old Harry to cameo in this somewhere," he told ComicBook.com.
"So, I'm definitely not seeking it out in any way. But I do wish them, obviously, all the luck in the world and I'm very excited to have that torch passed. But I don't think it needs me to physically pass it."
